Ukraine Euphoria, Women Take Center Stage Again, Djokovic and Sinner Through - Wimbledon Day 9
On Tuesday at Wimbledon, fans were treated with an enthralling doubleheader of Ladies Singles Quarterfinals. Marketa Vondrousova was a point from being 1-5 down in the third set but rallied to beat #4 seed Jessica Pegula 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 on Court 1, while on Centre Court, Elina Svitolina upset world #1 Iga Swiatek 7-5, 6-7, 6-2 in a tense match in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
In the men's matches, Jannik Sinner overcame a wobble to dispatch Roman Safiullin 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. It is Sinner's first career major semifinal and he is the youngest Wimbledon semifinalist since 2007. Later in the day, Novak Djokovic overcame a slow start to beat an overmatched Andrey Rublev 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-3.
